prison ministry
the Aftercare Program
The Sisters of St. Joseph AFTERCARE PROGRAM helps women prepare to leave incarceration and return home to family and friends. Chaplain, Sr. Maureen Clark, coordinates this program and works with volunteers and advocates to prepare incarcerated and recently released women for life after prison. aley House is a Dorothy Day Catholic Worker House serving members of the Boston community. Its main aims are feeding the hungry and clothing the needy. It also provides an outreach component to identify those "on the street" who need support and referral to other services.
To enter the program women let staff know they would like the program’s help. Staff and volunteers then work on reentry using the women’s own personal goals. Work with the women happens throughout their serving time and continues after they are released. The program offers hope, encouragement and assistance to women to be able to rebuild their lives, ‘be moms,’ and reunite with their children and family. Issues of housing, reentry, clothing, employment, and transportation are all addressed.
