How will
the newly configured
sacred heart Parish
manage its finances?
The Generosity of Parishioners has always been the most important factor in ensuring the financial viability of our parish. The prospects for financial stability during the time of transition from Collaborative to independent parish are promising.
We still have significant savings from the sale of our rectory and expect giving to increase as our new situation becomes clearer. Increased transparency and targeted fundraising will encourage additional giving.
The expectation of the restoration of a fully functioning spiritual home has already convinced many who were reluctant to give to the Collaborative to pledge for the future of the restored parish. In addition to monetary donations, parishioners have offered major household and office items to help provide for the basics an independent parish will require.
Potential parishioners who did not join the parish due to a lack of access to religious education or on-site staff are reconsidering joining and supporting Sacred Heart in its new configuration as a full-service parish.
Fiscal Restraint will be required as we get established setting up offices, classroooms and a home for our pastor.
Parishioners with special skills and training are offering to serve as volunteers to keep costs down during the transition. We are working with the Archdiocese to ensure that these volunteers are fully prepared for their new responsibilities.
An energy audit will be completed to inform us about ways to conserve energy. A more ecologically sensitive approach to garden design and maintenance is expected to decreased landscaping costs.
Equitable redistribution of assets from the Collaborative will allow Sacred Heart acquire some of the equipment and furnishings that will be essential to setting up an independent parish.
Financial records from the Collaborative will be professionally reviewed to ensure that all settlements between the two parishes are fair.
Is Sacred Heart Really considering building a new rectory?
Welcoming and caring for a pastor is an important part of parish life. While it is acceptable to rent a separate living space, it is preferable to have the pastor live on-site for both pastoral and financial reasons.
A new rectory will ensure that priests serving at Sacred Heart Parish are close by and comfortably sheltered. The building need not be extravagant and will reflect the size and culture of the parish. Funds from the sale of the previous over-sized rectory can be used to help finance an appropriate home for our clergy.
Sacred Heart has buildable land, the support of the Archdiocese and expertise within the parish. So it seems possible… Any decision will have to wait until after the new pastor arrives in June.

Imagine
a simple modern structure nestled in the woods…
views of the church through the leaves… a private terrace for reflection and socializing…
room for visitors and study… a winding path through the trees…
Our pastor strolling toward us smiling and greeting parishioners by name.
